Vestibular Rehab is a specialized form of physical therapy intended to alleviate problems caused by vestibular disorders - primarily vertigo and dizziness, gaze instability, and/or imbalance and falls.
Signs and symptoms of a vestibular disorder:
- Dizziness
- Episodes of spinning
- Blurred vision
- Trouble focusing or reading
- Loss of balance
- Increased fatigue
- Headache or increased neck tension
Signs and Symptoms of a Concussion:
- Known trauma to the head
- Confusion, concentration and memory problems
- Dizziness and balance problems
- Double or blurry vision
- Headache
- Nausea and vomiting
- Feeling sluggish, hazy, foggy, or groggy
- Bothered by light or noise
Physical Therapy can help by:
- Prescribing exercises designed to retrain the brain to improve coordination of head and eye movements
- Restoring balance and equilibrium
- Providing aerobic exercise protocols for improvement in brain function post-concussion
- Providing manual therapy to decrease tension in the head/neck
