Vestibular/Post-Concussion Care

Dizziness and/or lack of balance is not normal, EVER!

Vestibular Rehab is a specialized form of physical therapy intended to alleviate problems caused by vestibular disorders - primarily vertigo and dizziness, gaze instability, and/or imbalance and falls.

Signs and symptoms of a vestibular disorder:

  • Dizziness
  • Episodes of spinning
  • Blurred vision
  • Trouble focusing or reading
  • Loss of balance
  • Increased fatigue
  • Headache or increased neck tension

Signs and Symptoms of a Concussion:

  • Known trauma to the head
  • Confusion, concentration and memory problems
  • Dizziness and balance problems
  • Double or blurry vision
  • Headache
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Feeling sluggish, hazy, foggy, or groggy
  • Bothered by light or noise

Physical Therapy can help by:

  • Prescribing exercises designed to retrain the brain to improve coordination of head and eye movements
  • Restoring balance and equilibrium
  • Providing aerobic exercise protocols for improvement in brain function post-concussion
  • Providing manual therapy to decrease tension in the head/neck
